Hobby horse polo is a sport originating from Kannus. The goal of the game is to maneuver a croquet ball into the opponent’s goal using mallets. In addition, players must stay mounted on their hobby horses throughout the game. The first-ever world championship battle took place in 2024, with the gold medal claimed by KiVa Simo.
Some carry wives (eukonkanto) – in Kannus, we carry hobby horses. Join us for a fun-filled day!

Bring your own horse (or borrow one from a friend!) and a croquet mallet. We also recommend shin guards, as mallets tend to swing in this sport. Participants must be over 15 years old.
Each team consists of four players. A match is played in two rounds—2 x 5 minutes. The team that scores more goals advances to the next stage. High mallets are prohibited, and the mallet must not touch an opponent. Your hobby horse must remain between your legs at all times.
Register your team by May 19th. Please include your team’s name when signing up. Participation is free, and the winning team will be rewarded!
